James Herve d'Egville c1810 - 1880, d'Egville was an British born watercolourist the exact date of his birth is currently under research by our authoritative colleagues and further information will be submitted if discovered. He certainly spent a great deal of time in Italy and Venice especially, as his works date from at least 1847 to 1873. This picture is of one of the most famous ports in the World, Saint Marks Square in the near distance and the Doges Palace and the Bridge of Sighs in the foreground. This a highly detailed and and historically accurate depiction of a time when a great many British artists travelled to Italy and painted their favourite sights. There is very little in the way of biographical detail of James Herve d'Egville and our researchers are working to supply more detail of his life , if more information regarding his travel experiences are forthcoming we shall endeavour to submit the findings here. This picture is signed and dated.
