Marie de' Medici

Mathurin Moreau 1822-1912, was a French sculptor in the classic academic style. His father was also a sculptor and his siblings. Mathurin first received a medal at the Salon in 1848, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1841. he was a realist sculptor and his subjects were historical portraits, genre , commemorative memorials and ornamental statues which decorated parks and municipal spaces. This portrait of Marie de' Medici in bronze is a first state cast and is in an untouched and original condition, for it's age it is superb.
