Raymond James Coxon 1896-1997, was an English landscape and portrait painter, he was a war artist during the second World war after which his works became more abstract. He studied at Leeds School of Art and the Royal Academy of Art, he taught at the Richmond School of Art. At the Leeds School he became friends with Henry Moore and travelled with him in France and later in life to America. Moore was best man at his wedding where Coxon married a fellow student who he had met at Leeds, Edna Ginesi another artist. This picture we think may have been painted on one of his trips to France after the war on one of his many travels with his wife. Signed.
